In Sacramento, CA, Modern Construction Group finished a complete exterior remodel, working from the wall structure out to the final paint. We installed new OSB sheathing, R-15 wall insulation and a complete James Hardie® siding system. The siding is James Hardie plank in Arctic White and the trim is Cobble Stone, both from the Statement Collection™ with ColorPlus® Technology.
We also installed new Anlin Panoramic windows and an Anlin Malibu sliding glass door with an in-glass pet door, all using the new construction installation method. To finish, we painted the soffits, fascia boards, foundation areas, gutters and downspouts around the entire home.

Starting From the Structure: OSB Sheathing & R-15 Insulation
Because the old siding was removed, the walls were open. That gave us the chance to improve what sits behind the new exterior.
- New OSB sheathing: a solid, flat base for the siding that also adds strength to the walls
- R-15 wall insulation: helps reduce heat transfer through the walls, which matters during Sacramento’s hot summers and cool winters
This kind of upgrade is easiest to do while the walls are open. It helps the home stay comfortable year-round.
Complete James Hardie Siding System
We installed the complete James Hardie system over the new sheathing, following James Hardie installation guidelines. As a James Hardie Alliance Select Contractor, our team follows these standards on every job. Benefits of James Hardie fiber cement siding:
- Fire-resistant fiber cement construction
- Durability against Sacramento Valley heat, moisture and pests
- Low maintenance compared to wood siding
- ColorPlus® Technology, a factory-baked finish that resists fading in strong sun

Arctic White & Cobble Stone: Clean, Classic Curb Appeal
The homeowners chose two colors from the Statement Collection™:
- Arctic White for the plank siding, a crisp, bright white with a clean, timeless look
- Cobble Stone for the trim, a warm neutral that adds definition around the windows, doors and corners
The pairing is fresh and classic, and it goes well with the new windows and painted details.
Anlin Panoramic Windows: New Construction Installation
As an Anlin Authorized Dealer, we installed new Anlin Panoramic windows throughout the home. Since the siding was being replaced anyway, we used the new construction method. The old windows came out down to the framing, and each new window was flashed and sealed directly into the wall system before the siding went on.
Anlin windows are engineered for California’s climate and offer:
- Energy-efficient glass for better comfort
- Less outside noise
- A lifetime warranty with accidental breakage coverage

Anlin Malibu Sliding Glass Door with In-Glass Pet Door
We installed a new Anlin Malibu sliding glass door with an in-glass pet door. The pet door is built into the glass panel, so the family’s pets can go in and out on their own. There’s no need to cut into a wall or add a separate pet door insert.
Exterior Painting: Finishing Every Detail
To tie the whole exterior together, we painted:
- Soffits
- Fascia boards
- Foundation areas
- Gutters and downspouts
All of it was painted around the entire home, so every surface looks consistent with the new siding and trim.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should I add insulation when replacing siding?
Siding replacement is one of the best times to do it. With the walls open, you can upgrade insulation, like the R-15 used here, without disturbing the interior of the home.
Why install windows with new construction methods during a siding project?
When the siding is removed, the windows can be installed down to the framing and properly flashed and sealed into the new wall system. You get a cleaner, more weather-tight result.
Can a sliding glass door have a pet door?
Yes. This project used an Anlin Malibu sliding glass door with an in-glass pet door, built directly into the glass panel.
What is ColorPlus® Technology?
It’s James Hardie’s factory-applied, baked-on finish. It resists fading and gives even color on every board.
