In Truckee, CA, Modern Construction Group installed custom Andersen® E-Series patio doors in a log cabin. The doors have a clear-coated pine interior and an aluminum-clad exterior in Andersen Forest Green. They also come with Low-E4® SmartSun™ glass with HeatLock® Technology and Newbury hardware in Antique Brass.
We installed the doors using new construction methods. We then added new exterior trim and custom beveled interior trim to match the cabin’s existing character and woodwork.

Why Andersen E-Series for a Mountain Log Cabin
Andersen E-Series is a custom line, so the doors can be built to fit the home’s style and openings. For this cabin, that meant combining a warm wood interior with a durable exterior that can handle the climate.
- Clear-coated pine interior: shows the natural wood grain and fits the cabin’s log walls and woodwork
- Aluminum-clad exterior: protects the door frames from sun, snow and moisture on the outside
- Andersen Forest Green: a deep, natural green that suits Truckee’s pine-forest setting
Low-E4® SmartSun™ Glass with HeatLock® Technology
Truckee sits high in the Sierra Nevada, with cold winters and strong sun at elevation. The glass package was chosen for both:
- Low-E4® SmartSun™ glass helps reduce solar heat and UV rays coming in, while still letting in plenty of daylight
- HeatLock® Technology adds a coating on the interior glass surface that helps reflect heat back into the room during cold weather
Together, they help keep the cabin comfortable through the seasons.
Newbury Hardware in Antique Brass
The doors have Newbury-style hardware in an Antique Brass finish. The warm, traditional look goes well with the pine interior and the rustic feel of the log cabin.
New Construction Installation in a Log Cabin
Log homes need extra care during door installation. Logs can settle and move over time, and the openings are often not standard. We used new construction methods so each door could be properly fitted, flashed and sealed into its opening for a secure, weather-tight result.
Custom Trim That Respects the Home’s Character
Trim is what makes new doors look like part of the original cabin.
- New exterior trim frames the doors and finishes the openings on the outside
- Custom beveled interior trim was designed to match the cabin’s existing woodwork
The new doors fit naturally into the home without changing its rustic character.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can patio doors be installed in a log cabin?
Yes, but it takes experience. Log homes can settle over time and often have non-standard openings, so careful fitting, flashing and trim work are important.
What is Andersen Low-E4® SmartSun™ glass?
It’s an Andersen glass option that helps reduce solar heat gain and UV rays while still letting in daylight.
What does HeatLock® Technology do?
HeatLock® is a coating on the interior glass surface. It helps reflect heat back into the room, which improves comfort in cold climates.
Can new doors match my home’s existing woodwork?
Yes. On this project, we made custom beveled interior trim to match the cabin’s existing woodwork.
