Clapboard and Lap Siding: Classic Profiles Explained

Key Takeaway

Clapboard and lap siding refer to horizontal overlapping board profiles: lap siding is the broad category, while clapboard specifically describes the tapered bevel style that has defined American homes since the 1600s. Exposure width is the single biggest design lever, ranging from roughly 4 to 10.75 inches with James Hardie fiber cement. For Northern California homes, fiber cement delivers the classic look with noncombustible performance and a 30-year material warranty.

Clapboard is a classic horizontal wood siding profile, and lap siding is the broader category of siding installed in overlapping horizontal courses. In everyday conversation, the two terms often mean the same thing, though clapboard usually points to the traditional bevel-style look homeowners picture when they imagine an older house. If you’re researching siding before a long-term exterior remodel, that overlap in terminology can get confusing fast. This guide walks you through what these terms actually mean, the profile options you’ll be choosing between, and how the look reads on different homes. We’ll also connect profile choice to material and to Northern California conditions, because the siding that looks right on your street still has to hold up to valley heat, sun, and fire risk.

What Is Lap Siding?

What Is Lap Siding?

Lap siding is any horizontal board or plank installed from the bottom up, with each course overlapping the one below it. That overlap is the whole point. When water runs down the wall, the layered boards direct it away from the sheathing instead of letting it seep behind the cladding. The same overlap creates the shadow lines that give a house its familiar horizontal rhythm, the crisp banding you notice from the curb even if you’ve never thought about siding a day in your life.

Because “lap siding” describes how the boards are installed horizontally on the building rather than a single look, it covers a broad family of styles and materials. Homeowners and builders also call it clapboard, weatherboard, or plank siding, and all of these names get used interchangeably. Weatherboard is the term you’ll hear more commonly in England and other parts of the world, while clapboard is the classic American name for the same idea. What stays constant is the structure: long horizontal planks, each siding board slightly covering the top edge of the one beneath it, building clean lines that add depth to a flat wall.

Is Clapboard the Same as Lap Siding?

Not quite, and the difference is worth understanding before you talk to an installer. Lap siding is the broad category. Clapboard is the classic horizontal profile within that category, the one most people mean when they say they want a traditional look. Where a generic lap board can be uniform in thickness, true clapboard is tapered, thinner along the top edge and thicker at the bottom where it laps over the course below. This tapered shape is why the same profile is often called bevel siding.

Traditional wood clapboards run around 3/4 inch thick at that bottom edge and were historically made by radially splitting logs, which gave each wooden board a natural grain and a slightly irregular character. Species like pine, cedar, and oak were common, each bringing its own grain pattern and durability. That taper is what produces the deep, defined shadow line clapboard is known for, and it’s the same overlapping logic you see in wood shingles, just laid as long planks instead of short pieces.

Here’s the practical takeaway: if a contractor says “lap siding,” they usually mean horizontal overlapping boards in general, and the specific profile is still up to you. If they say “clapboard” or “bevel siding,” they’re pointing at the traditional tapered look. Ask which profile they’re quoting so you’re comparing the same thing across bids.

A Short History of Clapboard Houses

A Short History of Clapboard Houses

Clapboard has deep roots in New England colonial building. The Fairbanks House in Massachusetts, built in 1641 and considered the oldest surviving timber-frame house in the country, wears clapboard siding. The witch-trial-era homes in Salem show the same profile on some of the region’s earliest wooden buildings. The look traces back to building traditions carried over from England, where riven oak weatherboard clad homes long before the style crossed the Atlantic; you’ll still find weatherboarded clapboard houses across Kent today. The National Park Service documents lap siding and clapboard in use across the United States from the 18th through the 20th centuries, with the profile, thickness, and exposure shifting by period and architectural style.

Exposure is where you can read the era. A roughly 4-inch exposure was fairly typical on many 19th-century buildings, while wider reveals became common on early 20th-century Craftsman homes. That range is why the same clapboard profile can feel formal and historic or open and relaxed depending on how much of each board you see. It also sets up the single most important design decision you’ll make.

The Key Elements That Define a Wood Siding Profile

Two homes can both wear “lap siding” and look nothing alike. The details below are what actually change how a wall reads from the street, and most siding guides skip right past them.

  • Exposure or reveal: how much of each board is visible after installation.
  • Board width: the full plank dimension, which sets the range of possible exposures.
  • Texture: smooth for a clean face, or woodgrain/cedar-style for natural character.
  • Shadow line: the depth of the horizontal shadow each lap casts.
  • Beaded detail: an optional decorative groove for a more refined look.
  • Trim and corner treatment: how the siding terminates and frames the home, including gable ends and a front porch.
  • Color and finish: whether the color is factory-applied or painted on site.

What Does “Exposure” or “Reveal” Mean?

Exposure, also called reveal, is the visible portion of each board once it’s installed. Board width and overlap set it, and it does double duty: it drives the appearance of the house and it’s part of how the wall sheds water. Narrower exposures read historic and traditional. Wider exposures feel more open and contemporary. The James Hardie product catalog lists Hardie® Plank in widths from 5.25 to 12 inches, producing exposures of roughly 4 to 10.75 inches, so the same material can lean either direction depending on what you choose. Availability varies by region, so confirm which widths are stocked locally before you settle on a reveal.

Classic Clapboard and Traditional Lap Profiles

Classic Clapboard and Traditional Lap Profiles

This is the workhorse. Clean horizontal lines, no fuss, and a look that suits a huge range of homes: Colonial, Cape Cod, ranch, bungalow, and plenty of traditional and remodeled houses around Sacramento. It’s the profile that tends to look right whether the architecture is historic or straightforward, which is exactly why clapboard siding has endured for centuries.

The reveal does most of the styling work. Choose a narrower exposure and the home takes on more historic character, with tighter banding and a formal feel. Widen the reveal and the same pattern reads more modern, with fewer, bolder lines. If you’re matching an older neighborhood or restoring period character, go narrow. If you want a cleaner, updated appearance on a traditional footprint, go wider. Either way, the profile itself does the heavy lifting.

Beaded Lap Siding

Beaded lap adds a small decorative groove, or bead, along the bottom edge of each board. That detail catches light and casts an extra line of shadow, giving the wall a more refined, traditional feel without leaving the classic lap family. It’s a good fit for homeowners who want a touch more detail and formality than flat clapboard offers.

James Hardie offers beaded profiles, including Beaded Select Cedarmill® and Beaded Smooth, which the catalog lists at roughly 8.25-inch width with a 7-inch exposure. As with any profile, verify local availability before you commit, since not every option is stocked in every region.

Dutch Lap, Wood Shingles, and Other Options

Dutch Lap, Wood Shingles, and Other Options

Dutch lap is a horizontal lap profile with a concave, cove-style groove milled into the top edge of each board. That groove deepens the shadow line and gives the wall a more decorative, hand-tooled look than flat clapboard. Readers ask about it constantly because it’s the most common alternative to a straight bevel profile, and it’s worth knowing even if it isn’t the right pick for your home.

A couple of related profiles round out the picture so you know where lap siding sits among your other options. Shiplap uses a distinct joint that leaves a small, even gap or channel between boards, a different look from the continuous overlap of lap siding. Wood shingles break the horizontal rhythm entirely, laying in overlapping courses of shorter pieces for a textured, cottage-style face. Board-and-batten runs vertically, using a wide panel with a narrow batten covering each seam, so this batten siding board approach is a separate category altogether. Each of these deserves its own deeper comparison, but for now, knowing the difference helps you speak clearly with an installer.

Smooth vs Woodgrain: Which Look Fits Your Home?

Texture changes the mood of a wall as much as the profile does. A smooth face reads cleaner and more contemporary, which suits modernized exteriors and homes going for a crisp, updated look. A woodgrain or cedar-style texture, like James Hardie’s Select Cedarmill®, reads warmer and more traditional, echoing the grain of natural wood without the upkeep.

The reason this matters is light. Texture affects how sunlight, shadow, and color come across from the street. The exact same profile in the exact same color can look sharp and modern in smooth or soft and classic in woodgrain. For example, a deep charcoal reads sleek on a smooth board and rustic on a cedar-style one. This is a common enough question that it’s worth a dedicated look, and manufacturer photos and product videos are a good way to compare textures side by side if you’re torn between the two.

Why the Material Matters More Than the Name

Why the Material Matters More Than the Name

Wood clapboard is the original, and it’s beautiful, but it asks a lot in return. It needs repainting every few years, sealing to prevent cracking and warping, and it stays vulnerable to moisture and insects no matter how carefully it’s maintained. A wooden wall in full sun bleeds its paint faster than most homeowners expect, and repairs pile up as the years go by. Modern materials for a clapboard look include vinyl, steel, or fiber cement, and the material you choose determines how the house performs and how much of your weekend it demands over the next few decades. Vinyl is the lightest touch on upkeep but can look flat and fade unevenly, which is why many homeowners weigh it carefully against fiber cement.

Fiber cement siding gives you the classic clapboard and lap look with far less maintenance and much stronger durability and quality. This is where we point homeowners toward James Hardie fiber cement siding, the gold standard for durability, beauty, and fire resistance. Its ColorPlus® Technology finish is baked on at the factory and cured between coats, which resists fading and holds color far better than paint applied on a ladder. Some homeowners treat siding as one of several exterior upgrades, and it pairs well with new windows and doors on the same project. A 30-year material warranty is available, and the substrate is a thicker, denser board described by James Hardie as noncombustible, complying with ASTM E136 as a noncombustible cladding. That fire-resistant performance is a real advantage in WUI areas, though no siding makes a home fireproof, and James Hardie notes that applied paints and coatings don’t share the substrate’s noncombustible rating. The point is simple: the profile decides the look, but the material decides whether that look still holds up in twenty years.

Choosing Lap Siding for Northern California Homes

For Sacramento and the surrounding communities, the profile is the fun part. The material and installation are what protect your investment. Northern California’s climate isn’t gentle on an exterior, and choosing siding without accounting for it is how homeowners end up redoing the job and spending money twice.

Valley heat and strong UV fade lesser finishes, which is exactly where a baked-on, fade-resistant finish earns its keep. In the foothills and other WUI areas, fire risk moves noncombustible or ignition-resistant siding from a nice-to-have to a genuine priority. CAL FIRE’s home-hardening guidance recommends replacing combustible siding with noncombustible or ignition-resistant material, and James Hardie fiber cement (HardiePlank, 5/16 inch) appears on the OSFM WUI Listed Products Handbook. Homes in the extended foothill service areas also see more moisture and snow, which raises the stakes on how the wall is built behind the siding. Requirements are site-specific, so confirm what applies to your address with your local building official and CAL FIRE / OSFM. Knowing which materials and techniques the local climate demands is a real differentiator, not marketing.

Installation Details Every Homeowner Should Ask About

Installation Details Every Homeowner Should Ask About

A great profile installed wrong is still the wrong result. Siding only performs the way it’s supposed to when the wall behind it and the details around it are handled correctly. You don’t need to go back to school on building science, but you should know what to ask.

  • Moisture management: a water-resistive barrier behind the cladding, with a drainage path for any water that gets past the siding.
  • Flashing: proper flashing at openings and roof-to-wall transitions, including kickout flashing where roofs meet walls.
  • Clearances: James Hardie’s guide calls for a minimum 6 inches from siding to the ground and 2 inches to slabs, paths, and steps.
  • Fastening: corrosion-resistant fasteners, each board nailed to manufacturer spec, not whatever’s in the truck.
  • Code and instructions: the 2025 California code requires a weather-resistant exterior wall envelope, and James Hardie’s own installation instructions must be followed.

Skipping these steps can void the material warranty and let water reach your sheathing, no matter how good the siding looks the day it goes up. This is why certified installation and a real workmanship warranty matter as much as the product itself.

How to Choose the Right Clapboard or Lap Siding Profile

Run through these questions and the decision gets a lot clearer:

  • What architectural style is your home, and are you matching it or updating it?
  • Do you want a traditional feel or a more contemporary one?
  • Smooth face or woodgrain texture?
  • How much shadow line do you want (narrow reveal for historic, wider for modern)?
  • Are you in a WUI or fire-prone area?
  • Do you want a factory-applied ColorPlus® Technology finish, or do you plan to paint on site?
  • Is your installer certified for the material you’ve chosen?

Is clapboard the same as lap siding?

Lap siding is the broad category of horizontal overlapping boards. Clapboard is the classic, tapered bevel profile within that category, and weatherboard is another name for the same idea. The terms are often used interchangeably, so ask your contractor which specific profile a quote refers to.

What is the difference between clapboard and Dutch lap siding?

Clapboard is a flat bevel board with a straightforward shadow line. Dutch lap has a concave, cove-style groove milled into the top edge, giving a deeper, more decorative shadow line and a slightly more ornate look.

What does siding exposure mean?

Exposure, or reveal, is the visible portion of each board after installation. Narrower exposures read more historic and traditional, while wider exposures feel more modern. It also plays a role in how the wall sheds water.

Is fiber cement lap siding fire resistant?

James Hardie fiber cement siding is described as noncombustible and compliant with ASTM E136, and HardiePlank appears on the OSFM WUI Listed Products Handbook. That’s a real advantage in fire-prone areas, but no siding makes a home fireproof, and you should confirm site-specific requirements locally.

Is wood or fiber cement clapboard better?

Wood clapboard offers authentic grain but needs regular paint, sealing, and protection from moisture and insects. Fiber cement gives you the same classic profile with far less upkeep, stronger durability, and noncombustible performance. Compared with slate or other premium claddings, it also delivers strong value for the price. For most Northern California homes, that trade lands in favor of fiber cement.

Does installation affect the warranty?

Yes. James Hardie requires its published installation instructions and applicable building codes to be followed, and failing to do so can affect performance or void the warranty. Certified installation protects both how the siding performs and the coverage behind it.

This is the second siding project we hired Gary and his team to complete on our farm property. Both projects presented challenges given the type and age of the structures. The first project was a complete residing plus other structural improvements of a manufactured home. This was completed last year. The current project that Gary just finished was the complete residing, OSB install, framing replacement, and window install on the original 1930’s barn. The barn had good bones but was in need of a complete overhaul. The transformation Gary and his team completed on the barn is nothing short of amazing. I have received so many compliments on the transformation. We are so happy to be able to breathe new life into this structure that has so much history. Gary and his team are truly skilled craftsmen that are hard to find these days. They take pride in their work and the attention to detail is remarkable. I highly recommend Modern Construction Group.

We have now used Modern Construction twice, and both experiences have been outstanding. Our first project was a major renovation of our 3,500 sq. ft. home, where they installed James Hardie siding and Milgard windows. We were so pleased with the quality of their work that when we needed new Andersen sliding glass doors installed at our cabin, we didn’t hesitate to call them again. What really sets Modern Construction apart is their communication, attention to detail, and genuine pride in their craftsmanship. They keep you informed throughout the project, show up when expected, and take the time to make sure every detail is done correctly. Their crews are professional, meticulous, and clearly care about the finished product. Finding a contractor you trust enough to hire a second time says a lot. After two very different projects on two different homes, we have been extremely happy with both experiences. We would absolutely use Modern Construction again and highly recommend them to anyone looking for quality work and a company that truly stands behind its craftsmanship. Five stars without hesitation!

There aren’t enough words to adequately express how wonderful Gary Chernyetsky & his team from Modern Construction are! The core of Gary’s credo is to provide the highest quality of work & total customer satisfaction which he proved to us completely. We needed work on our three story house; paint, siding, dry rot work & new windows. We met with Gary one morning & by afternoon we received a quote that was all-encompassing which included detailed description of the scope of work with pictures, description of products to be used & price. His team was polite & extremely hard working from 8am to 5:30 pm six days a week. Work was never delayed because of another customer. We were always treated as a priority. Gary came out everyday to check on work & if we had any questions. If anything was not done to our satisfaction, Gary would see to it that it was changed - without any contention. They also did extra work that was not listed in the scope of work like extra molding or repairs because Gary believes in doing quality work, not what expedient for them. He always puts the customer first. Our house is beautifully done thanks to Modern Construction. Plus Gary will come back six months later to see if all the work is still to our satisfaction! Modern Construction is a rare company that fulfills their promises, goes above & beyond to please the customer & takes pride in providing the highest quality of work. We can state without reservation that Modern Construction is THE VERY BEST! JUNE 2026 I needed my front door replaced & I went directly to Modern Construction Group because they did such an outstanding work on my house last year. Again, Gary & his team did an excellent & quick job. Gary comes out to the job to check on things & then comes back the next day to make sure we are satisfied-what excellent customer service! Every detail on my front door is perfect. I just love my new front door thanks to Gary & his team. DO NOT HESITATE TO HIRE THIS EXCELLENT COMPANY!

Choosing Modern Construction Group, Inc. to have all of my house windows installed was the best decision I made. Gary, the owner was excellent to work with; he came every day to personally supervise the work; to ask my opinion and if there were any concerns. The products he used are top of the line. The workers were totally professional, took great care to protect my floors and furniture and did a great job. Once they were done, my house looked like nothing had happened except that my windows now look fantastic. When I had a question, Gary was available right away and even after they were done with the job, I had something to show him and he came right away. The windows are beautiful and energy efficient, we already feel the difference. I highly recommend Gary and his company, Modern Construction Group, Inc.

I recently had my windows replaced by Modern Construction Group, Inc., and I couldn’t be happier with the results. The difference the new windows have made is incredible. We chose windows with sound protection, and the reduction in outside noise and it has exceeded my expectations. (We live next to the Elementary School) The installation team did an outstanding job. They were professional, worked efficiently, and kept the work area clean and organized throughout the entire project. Gary was also excellent to work with. He stayed in constant communication, kept me informed every step of the way, and made sure I understood the process from start to finish. His attention to detail and follow-up gave me complete confidence throughout the project. Another major improvement is the energy efficiency. The new windows have made a tremendous difference in keeping our house cooler, and our air conditioner doesn’t have to run nearly as much as it used to. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with both the installation and the way Modern Construction Group handled the entire project. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for high-quality windows and exceptional customer service.

We couldn't be happier with the work completed by Gary and his team at Modern Construction Group. They converted a window into a sliding glass door and replaced our old window-and-slider combination with a beautiful three-panel slider, completely transforming the space. From the very beginning, their communication was excellent. Gary took the time to answer all of our questions and helped us choose the right options for our home. The proposal was detailed and easy to understand, and the team kept us informed throughout every stage of the project. Everyone we worked with was professional, knowledgeable, and respectful of our home. The craftsmanship and attention to detail were outstanding, and the final result exceeded our expectations. The room feels brighter, more open, and much more connected to our backyard. We constantly receive compliments from family and friends who see the space, and it truly feels like it was always meant to be this way. We are so glad we chose Modern Construction Group and would confidently recommend them to friends, family, and anyone considering a home improvement project. We wouldn't hesitate to work with Gary and his team again.

We recently had Modern Construction Group replace 18 windows in our home, install a new patio door, convert one window into a Dutch door, and close up another adjacent window—and the results were outstanding! Everything looks seamless, as if it was part of the original construction. From the initial quote through final payment, communication was consistently prompt, professional, and polite. They took the time to answer all of our questions and made sure they understood exactly what we wanted before moving forward. Gary, who managed the project, was exceptional. He was organized, responsive, and clearly cared about the quality of the work. There was a hiccup with the Dutch door that was initially provided, but Gary handled it masterfully—he went back to the manufacturer and had it replaced quickly and without hassle. That level of accountability made a big difference. He also held a high bar for craftsmanship, even asking workers to redo items that weren’t perfectly executed the first time. All of the subcontractors were efficient, courteous, and respectful of our busy household (including kids and dogs). They worked seamlessly and made sure to clean up thoroughly at the end of each day. You may notice in the photos that some areas around the new installations are not painted—this was our choice, as we decided to handle the painting ourselves to save on cost. That said, they did offer to include painting as part of the project and were happy to quote it. Overall, this was a smooth, stress-free experience with high-quality results. I would highly recommend Modern Construction Group to anyone looking for reliable, detail-oriented professionals.

We just finished installing 13 Anlin windows and two large sliding doors, and we are thrilled with the quality and craftsmanship of the work. The crew was very polite, professional, and made sure to clean up thoroughly at the end of each day. The communication with Gary, the owner of Modern Construction Group, was amazing from beginning to end. He was attentive, responsive, and made the entire process smooth and stress-free. This was a large project that lasted three days, and it was executed with true professionalism and great attention to detail. If I could give 10 stars, they would absolutely deserve it. It was a pleasure doing business with Modern Construction Group, and I will definitely keep them on my list for future projects. For transparency, I am not affiliated with the company in any way — just a very satisfied customer.

Modern Construction replaced all our windows in our home, we had 32 windows and 1 sliding glass door. We were told it would take 2 days and they completed the job with perfection. All the workers were very respectful and efficient. I now want to talk about the kind of windows they used. They use high-end windows by Anlin windows and are amazing. The founder Gary Chernyetsky was amazing to work with so I will recommend him to anybody that asks about our new windows in the future.

We've remodeled our house a little bit at a time, so we have worked with a lot of contractors. Communication is not typically their strength, but Gary is super responsive. We had somewhat unique ideas about our siding, and Gary found exactly what we wanted. He and his team were always professional, and did quality work, and they got it done quickly without cutting corners. We are super happy with the results. Even after we paid, Gary sent his team to do final touches, and then Gary came himself. He also had our courtyard fence painted at no cost. I am so happy to not have that summer project! I will also add that he provided the most detailed quote, which I really appreciated. I highly recommend!

I worked with Modern Construction for painting and stucco work and so much more, too many things to list here. Gary was fantastic to work with, he was always there to meet in person, understood what we needed and made the process very smooth. As the remodeling progressed new items were found and they were able to take care of it all. The pricing was reasonable and the end result fantastic. The property looked great. I'd highly recommend them.

Gary and his team came through and I am very pleased with the results. It all started with a detailed proposal that spelled out the work, leaving no doubt the big stuff was covered. On day one, a crew of four showed up on time to take care of the demo and install windows. After the rough in inspection, the team did a wonderful job installing the siding and trim pieces. Gary and I communicated throughout the project, for the work and to setup inspections. Coming from a retired project manager, I was pleased that it all came off like clock work and there were no surprises on this job (as often experienced by many others). I would definitely hire MCG again on a future project.

We had a wonderful experience with Gary and his team in replacing our siding, windows, and insulation. We had heard about them from other people we knew, and when making the final decision, we saw the incredible reviews all over for Modern, helping us solidify our decision (thank you Yelp!). Gary was prompt, courteous, and professional from the first estimate through the completion of the project. He responded to questions about the estimate and final questions before making the decision, and communication is a big thing for us. The team who actually completed the project had all the same positive attributes. Perhaps the most amazing part was that the team stayed on the promised schedule, even with a holiday and the heat being above 110 every day they were working on the project. They showed up on time every day to make sure the project was done. In addition to the heat, there was an issue with the windows being delayed in arriving from the manufacturer. Gary advocated for us to do all he could to get us the windows as quickly as possible (originally they were going to be 3 days late, but after he spoke with the powers that be, he got it bumped down to only 1 day late). One window even got delivered to the wrong place, and he did what he could to track it down and get it to us as soon as he could. We also had to address some electrical tasks during this project, some of which were very much intertwined with the work Gary was doing, and Gary worked well in coordinating with our electrician. Lastly, when the project was essentially done and Gary did the walkthrough, he kept his same work ethic and attention to detail. Throughout the project he was very interested in the big picture of the final project. During the walkthrough, he addressed everything we wanted fixed, no matter how small, and even found some items he added to his list that we did not notice, wanting to make sure nothing was left undone. For big projects like this, you want the job done well and someone easy to work with, which is what Gary and his team offer. We would easily do other work with him, and give more stars if possible.

We recently had a master bath remodel done with Modern Construction Group. the entire process was so perfect! The team checked in with us on suggestion and confirmed we were always on the same page. They went above and beyond to make sure we were happy and completed what we had discussed. Our Master bathroom and walk in closet turned out better than I could imagine! They also installed three windows for us and it has made our room look so much bigger. Thank you Gary, Paul, and team we are so happy and highly recommend this company for any remodel that you may need.

We used Gary and Modern Construction Group for a full bathroom remodel and added a walk in closet and windows in our bedroom. I would highly recommend Modern Construction Group. From start to finish this project was seamless. During the quoting process Gary and Paul were very knowledgeable and suggested different and fresh ideas that we hadn't really thought of, and we said to ourselves yeah that's a great idea or suggestion. We got a number of different quotes and hands down Gary and Modern Construction provided the best overall and most comprehensive quote. Gary, Paul and the crew kept the bathroom remodel on schedule, they communicated perfectly to ensure that everything was followed based on the contract. All in all the bathroom remodel turned out absolutely amazing and we love it. When we are ready to do our other bathroom remodel we will be calling Gary and Modern Construction Group.

I had Modern Construction Group replace two of my exterior doors. Gary and crew were fantastic. One of the most important things for me when selecting contractors (outside of quality of work) is communication and speed of communication. I was incredibly happy with responses and open communication I received with Gary. Gary's crew did a wonderful job on my door replacements and trim. I believe I got a reasonably fair price for the effort. I'll definitely use them for further work on my home in the future.

10/10 recommend Modern Construction Group for all of your contracting needs. I contacted them regarding a water leak in my bedroom window, they worked with my schedule and got someone out quickly to inspect it. Gary was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable, he quickly pinpointed the issue and then explained what was going on. He instructed my husband and I on exactly how to repair the issue ourselves if we wanted to save money, and also offered a quote for him to do it. Gary made us feel confident in his skills and expertise, and gave us all the information we needed to get our problem resolved. Everyone I interacted with was helpful and easy to work with! I have definitely found the person I will be using for all future contracting needs.
